The difference between Antigen and PCR tests
Antigen test (frequently referred to as a rapid test) detects protein fragments specific to the Coronavirus. Turnaround time for results is usually very quick and  results can be reported within 15 minutes.
PCR testing is considered the “gold standard” in SARS-CoV-2 detection. This test actually detects RNA (or genetic material) that is specific to the virus and can detect the virus within days of infection, even those who have no symptoms.
It is important to know difference between antigen and PCR tests from serological tests. Antigen and PCR tests indicate the presence of the virus in the body and a positive result of these tests suggests that you are currently infected. At the same time, serological tests indicate the presence of antibodies that your body has developed when it infected with the virus, and a positive result in that type of test suggests that you have either recovered from the infection or been in contact with the virus.
